What is a DPE?
A Designated Pilot Examiner is an FAA-authorized examiner who administers practical tests — checkrides — on behalf of the FAA. After a successful oral exam and flight test, the DPE issues your pilot certificate or rating. DPEs are private examiners (not FAA employees) and set their own fees, typically $800–$1,200 per checkride depending on the certificate and aircraft.
In New Hampshire, contact a DPE directly to schedule. Most DPEs book several weeks out, so reach out as soon as you have a target checkride window.
