Great examiner, very fair and the best part is that he can do almost any exam you want from ppl to mei n even cfi renewal if you let the cfi lapse. He is very busy but definitely worth the wait or if your student is really good, book him ahead of time but only after your student meets the basic flight hour requirements since weather can always ruin your planning.

Oral was about 2 hours. I come overprepared so that was not an issue. You really want to know everything about airspaces and cloud clearences. Make sure you are able to read METARs, TAFs and Notams.

Darrell is the friendliest DPE you will ever meet. He is extremely helpful and knows exactly which questions to ask to make sure you have a proper understanding of whatever rating you are applying for. When my written test wasn't available in the system, Darrell went out of his way to make me a type-written temporary license and make sure I received it as soon as possible. He always makes the check ride experience pleasant and I recommend him to anyone and everyone!

He is a very nice DPE. He makes you feel comfortable right from the beginning. I would choose him as my next DPE again!

That was the most awesome checkride I ever had. He´s very laid back. He knows that you are nervous and you will make mistakes. That´s ok. He even helps you a little bit here and there. My next DPE will be definitively Mr Gordon again!!!!

Darrell is an awesome examiner! He made me feel right at ease as soon as he walked in for the oral. He is very laid back and very nice, which definitely helps you feel less nervous. The oral was pretty easy and we even would go off on rabbit trails in between which helped it not seem so bad. During the flight portion, Darrell gave little tips for how to maneuvers better after I would complete them. He's big on making sure you are a safe pilot, and will give you tips for making you even safer. He also gives you chances to redeem yourself should you not do things perfectly on the first try, which I definitely appreciated. Overall, I would definitely use Darrell again for whatever checkrides I may have in my future beyond private SEL.
